Reaching New Heights
About Our Program
A Vision that began many years ago finally became a reality! In October 2008, we were proud to introduce One Step Up, a private, non-profit preschool for children with disabilities.
Our goal is to challenge everyone, to constantly move each child forward, past their unique obstacles. We want our preschoolers to move into Kindergarten with confidence, as well as a love of learning.
At One Step Up we believe that there are fundamental cognitive skills that need to be in place for learning to occur: attention, imitation, memory, problem solving and language. We encourage these skills in our students as they figure out how to act within their environment - despite what challenges their minds or bodies may present.
At One Step Up, teachers and peers are the students models and support system. We also strongly believe in family carryover at home to help these children practice emerging skills and maintain new ones.
Our curriculum includes all content areas: literacy, math, science, social studies/community exploration, technology, music and art. A child-directed, play-based approach is our primary means of instruction. Short, structured gathering times are also used (1-2x daily) for group instruction/exploration in pre-planned activities.
